Pat Smith (Executive Chairman)
Patrick Smith retired from Sprint in 2001, where he served as Senior Vice President of Systems Integration and Technology Planning for the company's Information Technology division for seven years. There, he worked in concert with the Senior Vice President for Network Design and Planning and was responsible for company-wide technical architecture decisions. He led the team responsible for the development of the One Sprint program which has resulted in a substantial reduction in Sprint's costs for enterprise networking, IT infrastructure and development services. He provided the technology vision and leadership for Sprint's entry into the Managed Services business, now one of the major profit growth areas in the company. Prior to joining Sprint, Mr. Smith was the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Comdisco, and from 1983 to 1994, he served as the CTO for SHL, Systemhouse Inc.

 



Raj Singh, Chief Executive Officer
Raj Singh brings over 25 years of international business experience to Wavesat. Mr. Singh joins Wavesat from MoSys (Nasdaq: MOSY), a provider of high-density system-on-chip (SoC) embedded memory solutions, where he was VP of Marketing and Business Development. Prior to that, he was Executive VP Worldwide Sales of Virage Logic (Nasdaq: VIRL) for 3 years and led the company to significant revenue growth during his tenure. Before joining Virage Logic, Mr. Singh was a founder, Executive VP and General Manager at 3Dlabs until its acquisition by Creative Technology (Nasdaq:CREAF) in 2002. He also played a major role in its IPO and acquisitions of Dynamic Pictures and Intense3D. Mr. Singh also spent five years with Dupont (NYSE: DD), where he was a business manager and VP of the company's Pixel operation.




Glenn Egan
BDC's Information and Communications Technologies investment activities are led by Mr. Glenn Egan who joined BDC Venture Capital in 2000. Mr. Egan brings 20 years of operational experience to the position including 15 years in wireless products and services. Prior to joining BDC, he spent 3 years as Vice President, Business Development for EMS Technologies. He spent the previous 12 years in various senior positions with wireless carriers including a wireless start-up. Glenn Egan holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Engineering from the University of Waterloo and a MBA from the University of Western Ontario.



Ed Frank
Dr. Edward (Ed) H. Frank is currently a Vice President at Apple, Inc.. Prior to Apple he was Corporate Vice President Research and Development at Broadcom (Nasdaq: BRCM), where he was responsible for Broadcom's overall engineering execution and played a key role in corporate business and IP strategy. Prior to becoming Corporate VP of R&D, Dr. Frank co-founded and led the engineering group for Broadcom's Wireless LAN business, which is now one of Broadcom's largest business units. Dr Frank joined Broadcom in May 1999 following its acquisition of Epigram, Inc., where he was the founding CEO and Executive Vice President. From 1993 to 1996, he was a co-founder and Vice President of Engineering of NeTpower Inc., a computer workstation manufacturer. From 1988 to 1993, Dr. Frank was a Distinguished Engineer at Sun Microsystems, Inc., where he co-architected several generations of Sun's SPARCstations and was a principal member of Sun's Green Project, which developed the precursor to the Java(tm) cross-platform web programming language. Dr. Frank received a B.S.E.E. and an M.S.E.E. from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Frank is a Life Trustee of Carnegie Mellon University and a member of its Board's Executive Committee. Dr. Frank also holds over 40 issued patents.



Vincent F. Ratford
Vincent F. Ratford joined the Xilinx in January 2006 as Vice President of Marketing, Business Development and Silicon Architecture. Mr. Ratford was promoted to Vice President and General Manager in October 2007. He was promoted to Senior Vice President, Solutions Development Group in April 2008 and assumed his current position of Senior Vice President, Worldwide Marketing in November 2008. Prior to joining the Xilinx, he served as President and CEO of AccelChip, Inc. (AccelChip), a provider of synthesis software tools for designing DSP systems, from July 2004 until its acquisition by Xilinx in January 2006. Prior to that, Mr. Ratford operated the consulting firm, DeepTech Consulting, from April 2002 to July 2004. Mr. Ratford worked at Virage Logic Corporation, a provider of semiconductor IP, as Vice President of Marketing and Business Development from July 2000 to April 2002 and as Vice President of Sales and Marketing from February 1998 to July 2000. Before joining Virage Logic, Mr. Ratford served as Chief Operating Officer of the Microtec Division of Mentor Graphics, a provider of hardware and software design solutions to semiconductor companies, from October 1995 to December 1997. Before joining the Microtec Division, he was Director of Marketing for Mentor Graphics' System Design Division from May 1993 to October 1995.



Claude Vachet, eng., M.B.A
Claude Vachet has 19 years of experience in the field of high technology businesses and has been working as high-tech venture capital manager for the last 12 years. Mr. Vachet is a Managing Partner at Multiple Capital where he manages a portfolio of venture capital investments for Coller Capital (London based fund). Over the years, Mr. Vachet has successfully worked with several start-up companies where both his business experience, engineering background and financial expertise has helped to contribute to the success of these high-tech ventures. Mr. Vachet has acquired an extensive corporate governance experience from numerous board positions held in portfolio companies throughout his career. Today, he continues to play an active role as a director on the board of several companies (Wavesat, LxData, Solacom, IR Photonics, Algolith and Freebalance) adding value as director through his very broad network of industry contacts. Mr. Vachet holds an MBA with Finance major from HEC Montreal (1997) and a Chemical Engineering Degree from École Polytechnique de Montreal (1990).



Michael Walker
Michael Walker is the Group Research and Development Director for the Vodafone Group of companies, with the responsibility for the Group’s research activities, intellectual property and technology standards worldwide. Mr. Walker also leads technology innovation and manages engagement with start-up companies. Mr. Walker is a member of the Board of Vodafone Ventures, the venture capital arm of the company. As a part-time professor, Michael holds the Vodafone Chair in Telecommunications at Royal Holloway, University of London; he is a visiting professor at the University of Surrey, and he is Vice Chairman of the Mobile VCE – a group of universities and industries researching mobile communications. Mr. Walker sits on scientific advisory boards for the Universities of Warwick and Surrey, the London Development Agency, the UK Government and some start-up companies. Mr. Walker has held a number of positions with standards bodies, including chairmanship of the body responsible for the security aspects of UMTS. Before joining Vodafone, Michael was Head of Mathematics at Racal Research and prior to that an academic at the University of Tuebingen in Germany. Michael is also a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
